MO MURPHY: MASTER STYLIST/OWNERSince her graduation from Aveda in 1994, Mo has spent her entire career in the Aveda network. Her natural curiosity, love of hairdressing, sponge-like need to learn, and inability to sit still drove her to try every flavor in the jellybean jar that is the world of hair: as stylist/colorist, educator, manager, coach, creative director, writer of curriculum, hair show artist, and now, owner of Miyagi. Mo thrives on change and evolution. She has a ferocious passion for taking care of people, which makes her well-suited to the role of ninja salon owner.
Mo’s styles have graced models at the Voltage: Fashion Amplified shows and numerous other high fashion events, and some of the most beautiful people in the world: her clients.
Bethany was catapulted into the depths of the hair care scene by the fire breathing flames of Aveda and its Institute in killer Minneapolis in 2001 A.D. Decked out in the blackest of black with a raging desire to chop striking locks, slice eye-grabbing colour, and ask only the most crucial queries to shred every fear of departing with an utterly rancid ‘do. Slaying deadly hair screams of inspiration; seething from Aveda and Intercoiffure’s mastodon expertise, treks to Australia and New Zealand, Jamaica, NYC and throughout the States, the most lethal music, art, design, fashion, and morbidly bloody humour.
JACK HYSELL: STYLIST
Since 2003, Jack has dedicated himself to his industry, and also, to the journey of learning. His experience was gained in Sioux City, Iowa where he worked as a Master Stylist at the towns premiere AVEDA Concept Salon. In October of 2008, Jack packed up his shiny multi colored shears and his pure ninja prowness and headed north to Minneapolis joining the team at Miyagi! His talents extend to acting, playing piano, taekwondo, and some others that if we told you about we would have to kill you.
So go on, make an appointment, you know it sounds FUN!
I am a recent graduate of the Aveda Institute. Seriously, do not be alarmed!! I can assure you that I wasn’t the short straw in the game of Russian Roulette. I definitely have a flair for the dramatic. And I am most excited when clients request to look like their favorite anime character. That being said, I also enjoy subtle classic shapes. Really what I am getting at is that I am looking for all types of clients with all types of hair textures.
But please: All hair divas and divos NEED APPLY!!!
I graduated from the Aveda Institute in 2004; 5 years total of making people look and feel beautiful. I worked almost all 4 years in an Aveda salon and spa in Eden Prairie where I was a stylist and haircolor educator. I’m very excited to be in the city and to get to do a wide variety of shapes, colors, styles, and textures. I have a passion for fun creative cuts and colors and have a great background in classic shapes and styles. If you’re into great service and style, come play with me!!
Rachel Tillemans’ training with Aveda in 2005 mapped her way to a career filled with enthusiasm. A passion to match an individual’s hair with their personality and style is what drives her excitement. Inspired by colour, nature, and personal style, she stands behind all of her work with the concept that “you wear your hair every day; wear it well!!”
CARLEY SLEEPER: STYLIST
I started my hair journey in October 2008 and am loving every minute of it! I have been interested in doing hair since before I can remember, so for me being a stylist is a dream come true. With such great passion for the beauty industry, I graduated from the best cosmetology school in America- The Aveda Institute Minneapolis. I very much enjoy a challenge so if you feel you have difficult hair, bring it on!
I was drawn to Miyagi immediately. It is truly a unique salon with such positive energy! I have complete confidence in all of my co-workers (because they rock!), but I would love to be the girl to fix, change, or recreate any look; making it customized just for you! Hi-Yah!
GEORGE: SALON MANAGER/SUPER NINJAGeorge was raised by a pack of wolves and joined the circus at the young age of 13. After years of wrestling the fierce tigers and blowing fire she decided to settle down a bit and joined the Aveda Institute. In 2007 she graduated from the massage therapy program ready to take on the world.
She stumbled into Miyagi one hot summer day this past August, and refused to leave until we gave her the role as our chief concierge.
These days you can find this barefoot ex-carney answering our phones, making appointments and devouring all of our coffee. During the weekend she is a massage therapist at Stonehaven Wellness Center out in Chanhassen.
George resides in the magnificent Nordeast Mpls. She is deathly afraid of Frisbees, but enjoys collecting ninja stars, painting, checking out live music from the area’s locals, bull fighting, and antiquing.
